We look forward to July when we will come together as a very large extended family.   Our ancestors were interesting and courageous people and this reunion is a time for us to come together, enjoy a few Warzonka toasts to their memory, and have a lot of fun!

DESCENDANTS OF:

waszut-fam

Jan Jersey Waszut (1856 – 1918) – Anne Francisczka Legierska Waszut (1860 – 1926)

The Waszut Family  The known history of the Waszut family begins in Austrian controlled Silesia during the time Poland was partitioned among three European powers. The specific area is still referred to as Fibaczka, a lush green valley near the village of Koniakow in southern Poland.   Jan Jerzy Waszut and Anna Legierska Waszut were married circa 1880 and raised a family of thirteen children on the farm they called Fibaczko. Anna was the daughter of Jan Legierski (1828) and Suszanna Gazur (1832).  Jan Jerzy was the son of Jerzy Waszut (1830) and Anne Matuszny (1830).

During the great wave of Polish immigration that took place between 1890 and 1920 eight of Jan Jerzy and Anna Waszut’s children crossed the Atlantic in search of new opportunities.  Six were to settle in the United States (Mary, Suzanna, Theresa, Eva, Paul and Karolina)and two settled in Canada (John and Francisczka). One child died as an infant (Francek)and one as a young adult during WW I (Jozef).  Only three of the surviving children were to stay in Poland (Jadwiga, Anna and Francek). The family expanded during the next generation with 61 grandchildren of Jan Jerzy and Anna living to adulthood. Although the majority of us reside in the United States and Canada, we proudly maintain contact with family members living in Poland.
